Listening to the client is the most important
thing. If you do not deliver what they asked for
then it's a waste for all involved. Your design may
evolve into something far removed from their
original concept but if you answer the brief and
communicate your ideas, things should go well. From
business cards to exhibition graphics providing a
successful solution for a client is the challenge I
love.
Being able to create quality artwork is as
important to me as the design of a job. Having the
skills to take a design and develop it to the
finished article, creating files that go through
Repro without a hitch and making the finished job
look consistently good quality, are skills which I
value highly. This knowledge helps reduce both time
and cost, two increasingly important variables in
this business.
Having managed a reprographics studio for a company
which turned over £7million I know what is needed
to get jobs from design ideas to the printed page
without causing problems. Using software such as
Prinergy, Brisque & Preps I practiced in the
‘black arts’ of Repro problem solving for many
years.
Over the last 15 years I have been fortunate enough to work in a variety of position which has enabled me to learn a wide range of skills.
Developing skills
The Internet has become a hugely important media, one which I appreciate more each day. I am learning to develop some of the skills needed to contribute in the creation of web content. At times it hurts my head but feel it is worth the pain!
